PART 2: Jason Lester Discusses Canary Park

By Lucas on Mar 17, 2014

In PART 1 of our interview with Jason Lester of Dundee Kilmer, we discussed the construction progress of Canary District. In PART 2, it’s all about Canary Park, the second residential phase of the Canary District master-plan!

Canary Park is coming soon!

“What’s unique about Canary Park is that it’s the closest building to the park [Corktown Common], which acts as a trailhead for hundreds of kilometers of trails,” Lester stated. “It’s also going to be the closest building within the community to the downtown relief line, once it gets built. There’ll be a subway stop either immediately to the north or south of it.”

Compared to the first phase, Canary Park is larger, will have more terrace space, and offer two-storey units. Canary Park will also feature the most retail space out of every building in the Canary District. According to Lester, they are currently focusing on finding the perfect retailers to fill the space. Teaming up with LiveWorkLearnPlay, the development firm behind the villages at Whistler, Mont Tremblant, and Blue Mountain, the idea is to create a cohesive urban village.

Because of the proximity to Corktown Common, the retailers will be health and wellness oriented, but instead of having a giant one-stop shop like SportChek, there will be a variety of specialty shops, such as a really good bike store or health food store. The retailers will start occupying the spaces in 2016.

For all you first-time buyers out there, Canary Park will have 50 units available through the MyHome program. To qualify for the MyHome program you must be a first-time buyer, have a household income under $82,600 a year, and be at least 18 years of age. To learn more about MyHome, click here.

The Grand Opening of Canary Park will take place this May, but there will be a few preview events for registrants, so register today!

Stay tuned for more information about the Canary District!

The next big public announcement about Canary District will happen this summer when the one-year countdown to the games begins. Lester teased us, explaining that they have some unique celebrations planned, things that he doesn’t think “any developers have done before.”  What’s he talking about?! We have no idea, you’ll have to wait and see just like us.
