Are you a NIMBY?

By Lucas on Dec 13, 2012

One of the issues, or shall we say curses, that a booming city often experiences is NIMBYism. As we have said in the past, the public consultation is an important part of the planning process, and unfortunately, it can be knocked off its rails by passionate locals who don’t like change. This doesn’t help anyone.

The city has about 100,000 new residents every year we need to consider, and other locals get drowned out by the loud minority, causing legitimate comments to be buried in nonsense, and it just slows everything down.

Also, it doesn’t help purchasers, who have to wait, wait, and continue to wait for their new home while the NIMBY does everything they can to stall the process.

With that in mind, we would like to direct you to a playful, yet incredibly accurate flow chart provided by The Grid that asks (and answers) the question “Are you a NIMBY?”

Are you one of those stubborn, self-interested parties looking to derail the development process, only to benefit yourself? We hope not!

Do us a favour — next time you’re headed to a community consultation, print off a few of these charts, and hand them to anyone who seems to be forgetting the purpose of the meeting.

Thanks for the great flow chart, The Grid!
