Canary District Retail Health and Wellness Focused

As one of Toronto’s most refreshing upcoming developments, The Canary District is distinguishable by its visionary, inspired designs. Revitalizing the waterfront at Front and Cherry Street with incredible green spaces, courtyards, terraces and increased walkability throughout, now you can expect to see surrounding health and wellness focussed retail as well!

Developer Dundee Kilmer officially announced their plans to uphold The Canary District’s health and wellness theme by hand-picking retail and commercial tenants in hopes to further promote business sustainability and create a destination neighbourhood. With development advisor partners like Live Work Play Inc., we’re positive the 46,000 square feet of retail space will bring together the “best-of-the-best” in retail, restaurant, conveniences and quick-serve concepts, which will become “the future ambassadors of this one-of-a-kind mixed-use development.” Selecting operators with reputable backgrounds, visions, concepts, experience, creativity and financial capacity, the developers aim to build the perfect home for active Torontonians who prioritize these values.

“We have an opportunity to make the Canary District one of the city’s most attractive mixed-use communities by selecting a special group of businesses that cater to local resident’s needs,” said the President of Dundee Kilmer, Jason Lester.

Applicants will be chosen based on their ability to appease the community in a long-term scheme, growing with it towards optimal sustainability. There has been a lot of talk about finding retailers and operators specializing in cycling, yoga and outfitters for sports and recreation in addition to cafes, restaurants and neighbourhood conveniences and amenities. According to Lester, “This is very much a mixed-use neighbourhood, so we need to give people a reason to not only live here, but also to eat, shop and use other services that appeal to their interests.” Employing a proven tactic which incorporates brand name retailers that Dundee Kilmer already has relationships with, while placing significant emphasis on selecting tenancy primarily from local or regional independent retailers, the developer hopes to achieve similar results to those of re-opening the Distillery District in 2003.
