Just because you live in a condo without a yard doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice outdoor space. In Toronto’s competitive condo market developers are looking for unique ways to make their condo stand out from the rest. In this wave of innovation, outdoor space is getting a lot of attention, and simply advertising an outdoor pool or sundeck isn’t cutting it anymore. Developers are now packing their condos with unique features to help residents make the most of their time outdoors. Below we’ve listed five condos with amazing outdoor amenities so you can get a peek into what the designers are cooking up.
Harmony Village: Environmentally conscious amenities
In Scarborough, City Core Developments and Fortress Real Developments have been hard at work on Harmony Village Sheppard, an “amenity-rich, sustainable, and progressively-minded community.” The terrace includes a landscaped zen garden with a water feature and scent garden, as well as a rooftop planting and winter garden. These gardens are carefully planned to serve as a space of meditation and relaxation in all seasons, making Harmony Village’s outdoor space a year-round amenity. The condo also features an outdoor lounge, dining patio, and outdoor BBQ areas for residents looking to entertain and enjoy Toronto’s hot summers.
Harmony Village is also committed to sustainability and has implemented a number of features to ensure that their amenities save as much energy and water as possible. The extensive landscaping design uses native and drought tolerant plant species, and relies on harvested rainwater for irrigation.
1 Yorkville: Rooftop luxury overlooking the cityscape
1 Yorkville, designed by award-winning architect Rosario Varacalli and developed by Bazis and Plaza, is a luxury condo located in the heart of Yorkville. This stunning condo features a multi-level indoor and outdoor rooftop lounge overlooking Toronto’s impressive cityscape. Sitting atop the 58-storey condo, this outdoor space features a state-of-the-art BBQ area, fire pit lounge, and sun deck ideal for relaxing and entertaining guests. The outdoor cinema is also perfect for an intimate and unique theatre experience set against a backdrop of Toronto’s city lights.
The fourth and fifth floors are also home to The Spa, a large health centre ideal for both health enthusiasts and those looking for “a meditative and relaxed ambiance.” In the summer, residents can take a plunge in the large outdoor pool, socialize in the wading pools, or relax in the hot tub. After taking a dip, residents can rest in the cabanas, lounge on the large open air terrace, or find solitude near the zen garden. The outdoor portion of The Spa is complemented by the indoor hot and cold plunge pools, an aqua massage centre, saunas, a steam room, a dance studio, a yoga studio and a juice bar.
Daniels Waterfront – City of the Arts: A community of outdoor amenities
Daniels Waterfront is a master-planned mixed-use community planned for Toronto’s East Bayfront neighbourhood. Daniels’ vision is to create not only a condo, but a new waterfront community with outdoor spaces designed specifically to facilitate events and bring people together.
This community will feature Sugar Beach North, a tree-lined public amenity created to host outdoor gatherings and music events. This outdoor space is designed by the same landscape designer responsible for Sugar Beach, and will create a sense of continuity along Toronto’s East waterfront.
Daniels Waterfront will also feature ‘The Yard,’ an east-west cobblestone corridor between Lower Jarvis and Richardson Street. This pedestrian-only space was developed to link the north and south parts of the waterfront site. This outdoor space is modeled after London’s Brick Lane neighbourhood and will include retail space, cafes, restaurants, and space for outdoor festivals and events. These public spaces are perfect for individuals looking to keep connected with the community and enjoy the waterfront.
Aquavista: Lakeside living
Aquavista is Tridel’s latest condo located on Toronto’s waterfront. The condo will overlook Toronto’s inner harbour and Aitken Place Park, giving residents access to rejuvenating views. One of the most beautiful parts of the condo’s second floor outdoor terrace is the Infinity Pool (feature image) offering views of the harbour. After a dip in the pool, residents can lie on the sundecks, catch some shade in the canopies, or take a nap in the private lounging alcoves. At night, grab a drink from the bar and enjoy the fresh air coming off the lake while sitting around Aquavista’s fire pits with friends.
11 Wellesley on the Park: Giving back green space to the city
Wellesley on the Park is Lanterra Developments’ latest condo inspired by the Finnish modern architect Alvar Aalto. This project was originally intended to include two towers, however, the developer decided to return 1.6 acres of the land to its residents by developing a large public park instead. The greenspace is landscaped with pathways and flower gardens, and spaces to relax and recharge. A large public promenade also wraps around the building, and is lined with cafes and restaurants overlooking the park. Residents looking for more privacy can retire to the fifth floor terrace, which overlooks the city and gives residents a space to entertain and relax outdoors.
