Thunderbird by Edilcan showcases iconic design

By on Sep 28, 2010

Hot on the heels of One Valhalla Towns & Condos' June opening, Edilcan Development Corporation now introduces Thunderbird -- the second iconic tower in this three-tower community in the emerging Etobicoke City Centre.

The suites and townhomes in the first phase sold quickly and now this new condominium community on the site of the former Valhalla Inn has already proven popular. With a location close to amenities in one of Etobicoke's finest residential neighbourhoods, Thunderbird offers resident easy access to Sherway Gardens, Cloverdale Mall and Loblaws, as well as close proximity to Kipling TTC Subway Station and Pearson International Airport. The convenient Valhalla Express shuttle bus will be available to transport residents to the subway, grocery and both shopping malls. The community is also close to Highway 427, the QEW and downtown Toronto.

One Valhalla's striking exterior is by Page + Steele / IBI Architects, and it is surrounded by lush landscaping by Schollen & Company Inc. The towers rise from a one-acre landscaped podium and  radiate from an extensively landscaped European-style courtyard at ground-level with stone walls, raised planters, decorative lighting and a playground.

The buildings' many amenities are appointed by Munge Leung, and the majority of them will be located within Thunderbird. The indoor pool, splash pool and hot tub are adjacent to the patio on the rooftop podium, which means residents will be able to swim and look out or walk out onto this meticulously landscaped area for a rejuvenating experience. The Resident's Club bar and lounge also has a walkout to the ambiance of a landscaped podium. Amenities extend to a theatre, fitness facilities, business/study centres complete with Wi-Fi, media/library lounge, children's activity room, guest suites, and landscaped terrace rooftop with barbecue areas and an outdoor children's play area.

The name "Thunderbird" was chosen for the second tower because of its classic and iconic design. Sporty and luxurious, the car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company beginning in 1955 was billed as a personal luxury car, which appealed to a new market niche. Edilcan is working with Heritage Preservation Services to incorporate some of the more interesting heritage artefacts into the new residences. For example, some of the stonework from the original George Robb-designed building is being reclaimed and reused.

Thunderbird's one-bedroom, one-bedroom + den, two-bedroom and two-bedroom + study designs will be priced from the low $200,000s (including parking). One Valhalla will also eventually encompass 68 contemporary private two and three-storey townhomes.

The two Munge Leung-appointed model suites are a testament to the forethought and functionality of Edilcan's designs. The finishes here are of such a high quality that practically everything in the models is standard. Designed to appeal to different sensibilities, the two-bedroom + den model leans toward the classic and traditional, and the one-bedroom design is more modern, with retro touches in table bases and lighting.
