Historically, residential real estate has proven to be a wise investment, especially in established areas that feature lifestyle advantages for people of all ages. A prime example is Woodbridge, a major urban center in the City of Vaughan, which is one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities. Wycliffe Homes has been building in Woodbridge since the late 1970s, and the area’s growth has been phenomenal, with the current population sitting at over 100,000. The attraction is easy to understand – Woodbridge has everything, from a deep-rooted heritage to modern amenities, a strong and modern business community, and a refreshing inclusiveness that welcomes all cultures.

There is a certain cachet in being able to say you live in Woodbridge. Long admired for its European ambience, the area is home to amazing Italian restaurants, and you are as likely to see people playing bocce ball as soccer. In fact, Woodbridge is home to the Ontario Soccer Centre, which holds three indoor fields used for soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, lawn bowling, trade shows, and usually the Woodbridge Italian Festival held every August. Residents also celebrate their heritage and lifestyle at the annual Woodbridge Fair held on Thanksgiving weekend at the Woodbridge Fairgrounds.

Two of Canada’s finest golf courses – Board of Trade Country Club and The National Golf Club – lie within Woodbridge’s boundaries. So do some of the most interesting shopping venues in the GTA. In the Woodbridge business area, The Market Lane Shopping Centre is a charming country square with specialty stores, trendy boutiques and restaurants.

Woodbridge is well known as a safe place to raise a family, and with the exciting metamorphosis going on to transform the City of Vaughan into a world-class city, it is now attracting an influx of new home buyers of all ages. When the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension is completed in 2016, riders will be able to continue from Downsview to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre under construction at Highway 7 and Jane Street. This will be Vaughan’s new “downtown” with office towers, green space, courtyards, shopping, restaurants, walking paths and new residences.

This urban revitalization has a lot do to with Wycliffe’s design at Fairground Lofts in Old Woodbridge Village. We chose to introduce urban loft living in the area to appeal to second and third generations of residents who bought decades ago. The urban town lofts will have an industrial look similar to the factories where residential lofts originated, some with exposed brick and duct work inside. We also kept two restored Victorian-style heritage homes in the community. The look is similar to downtown Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood.

Anyone who is considering purchasing a new home in Woodbridge should act soon. Last year, sales were substantial, and with the exciting new infrastructure coming in to Vaughan, the potential for a healthy return-on-investment is strong. The secret is to get in during the transformation when prices are still competitive. Woodbridge is a great place to park your money, whether you are an investor or someone looking for a fantastic place to live.
