Model Suite Gives a Taste Of Life With Flaire

The idea of any model suite is to give potential buyers a clear picture of what their lives could look like, but few do it with as much style as Flaire — even the fluid balcony that is so striking on the building’s exterior architecture is part of the model suite.

“The balcony is an extension of the living space. It needs a certain dimension, certain depth,” says Alessandro Munge of the esteemed Toronto firm Munge Leung, who designed the amenities spaces at Flaire, as well as the gorgeous model suite and presentation centre. “The balcony is furnished with a couple of chairs, a side table, a barbecue, some garden materials to bring purpose to this additional living space.  There is nothing better than a great balcony when you’re living vertically!”

Real people living real lives is at the heart of his design strategy. “When we design the model suite, we’re really thinking about what someone’s lifestyle will be,” Munge says. “In this case, we were thinking of newlyweds, starting a new life together, with the room to accommodate a growing family.”

Space — that ability to expand the family or entertain guests — is a notable feature of the suite. In so many contemporary condos, you feel like youhave to vault over the bed to get to the closet, but the utilization of space in Flaire’s layouts is outstanding.

“If you entertain, you need room for a minimum of four, so if you have a space that only fits a loveseat, a chair, maybe a coffee table, it doesn’t make any sense. We really wanted to show people that at Flaire, you can have four or even six people here, and have a great conversation, have a glass of wine in the living room, enjoy the great view.”

The open layout lends itself perfectly to entertaining, and inspired Munge to create an integrated, complementary space that looks great from anywhere in the suite. “We make the transition between kitchens and living are seamless with a continuous floor pattern/material , so there isn’t a strong contrast. It’s very harmonious. If you walk into a space and say to yourself, ‘Oh, that’s the kitchen. That’s the floor. That’s the living room,’ it makes it affects the flow of the space.”

Kitchen countertops are all granite, a material that’s both super-durable and full of character, and complemented here by a tile backsplash. Even the appliances were carefully considered in context with the overall design. The bathroom is a spa-inspired space in which buyers can choose one of Munge’s favourite materials — natural stone.
