By Penny on Aug 26, 2014

We could all use a little help decluttering sometimes, certified hoarder or not. Now that summer is coming to an end and most of us are getting ready to go back to school or settle back into an average work routine, it’s best to get rid of the old and make room for the new. Check out our Decluttering tips below!

Baskets

Having baskets around the house is perfect for those miscellaneous items that never seem to have a designated home. Coming in all shapes, sizes and prices points, you can choose from a plethora of baskets that fit your needs and spaces. Another reason they come in handy is because even young children can learn to put their toys away when all it requires is a simple toss into the basket.

Shelves

Similar to baskets, shelves are an incredible tool for organizing your home, however, they come at a greater cost. Purchasing shelving units or getting them custom made might seem like a heavy investment, but the pros can definitely outweigh the cons in terms of how much use you’ll get out of them. Not only do they serve your home as extra storage for books, electronics and decor, they can dramatically elevate the sophistication and atmosphere in the room. Divide your drawers and nightstands

Finding (or making) small compartments to fit inside drawers and nightstands is a surprisingly simple and efficient way of organizing clutter that tends to happen in these places. Ever had trouble finding the lip balm you tossed into your nightstand when you were half asleep? Digging and digging through heaps of junk you never remembered putting away in a frantic rush because you’re late for work… Well, this is a great way to customize your drawers, making space for all these necessary items and never having to wonder where they are when you need them.

Paperwork

We all know that the best way to deal with paperwork is by filing it all away in a cabinet, but how about this amazing idea that puts your paperwork in a rolling organizer that not only has space for filing important papers, but makes room for: magazines, pens, tape and other stationary items. Making access to these items much easier by giving you the freedom to bring the whole set-up (practically) anywhere in your home because it’s on wheels!

Mason jar storage

This may sound silly, but as many craft enthusiasts and artists can confirm, there is an abundance of little materials and tools with nowhere to put them. This idea takes up a small space, (preferably in a closet or cabinet|) and even looks organized and cute. You can store buttons, rubber bands, glitter, paint and so many other items in mason jars and just label them accordingly.
