Home décor tips for football and hockey fans

Are you a sports fan? Do you have one in your family? It’s still early in the season and I thought it would be fun to embrace your inner sports fan by sharing a few home décor tips for football and hockey lovers!

The season is often filled with celebratory weekends to bring close friends and family together to watch sports. For many fans, the support lasts all year long and becomes a lifestyle.

Here are my five fabulous fan faves to incorporate your football or hockey theme into your home décor!

1) Highlight your team with a mural

Your teen will enjoy a bedroom design that reflects their passion for sports. Add a mural on the bed wall using large photo panels to showcase their favourite team! To design a space that will grow with your child, consider choosing an image that is in a neutral palette such as black and white.

2) Show your team spirit with a themed wreath

Why not create a whimsical entry to greet your guests by sporting a wreath that supports your favourite team? Visit a local arts and crafts store for various options such as faux-flowers, ribbons, and bows. Finish off your creation with a football as the focal point. Use hot glue to secure the ball to the fabric flowers, and you now have a festive decoration that can be used time and time again. This one is a good idea for our friends south of the border getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving!

3) Showcase your fandom in your work space

Adding sports memorabilia to your home office can be done without being boring and predictable. Avoid the vibrant painted walls of your chosen team, and opt for a more neutral colour scheme to let the important keepsakes and prints be the focal point of your space.

Intersperse your sports treasures in bookcases and throughout the room. Be creative by repurposing helmets into pieces of floating art with a modern stand! Remember to leave space around keepsakes to really show them off.

4) Show your spirit on game day

Next time you have a get-together to watch the big game, make an interactive appetizer table. Try adding mini chalkboards and make props and signs to hold up during commercial breaks for an impromptu photo op! Not only does an interactive table act as a decorative element, but it also brings hours of laughter and fun to game day.

5) Dedicate a room to watch the game

Watch the game surrounded by your favourite memorabilia! If your family participates in sports of their own, design the room to showcase these hobbies by hanging up sports equipment as part of the décor. Keep the memories alive by utilizing your spare sporting equipment as art. You can also adorn the walls with memorable pictures of your family participating in the sports.

I hope you now have some fantastic inspiration to demonstrate your love of the game. Keep in mind when accessorizing to use large scale pieces when possible. A few large items work better than too many small ones. If you are looking for more ideas to salute your inner hockey or football fan then you can visit our Pinterest board.
