Walkability: The Junction Triangle - 87

For the second installment of our Walkability series, we visited The Junction Triangle, as requested by real estate agent, Aleksandra Oleksak. Via Twitter, Oleksak told us that it’s her favourite neighbourhood in Toronto, and with all of the new developments planned for the area, how could we not go check it out?

The borders of The Junction Triangle are defined by railroad tracks that run east/west between Dupont and Davenport, and then north/south just west of Lansdowne, forming two sides of the Triangle - and then down the east side of Dundas Street West, where it runs north/south between Roncesvalles and Lansdowne, forming the third.

WalkScore.com gives The Junction Triangle a score of 87, labelling it as “Very Walkable.” According to WalkScore.com, The Junction Triangle is the 20th most walkable neighbourhood in Toronto. That doesn’t sound very impressive at the moment, but the neighbourhood is going through a transition - we’ll get to that later.

What’s so special about The Junction Triangle?

The Junction Triangle has a small-town vibe. There are many older low-rise homes, as well as some mid-rises. The best part about The Junction Triangle is that it caters to a wide variety of lifestyles. There are schools and grocery stores around, and the street traffic isn’t too busy, so it’s perfect for families. Then, there are cafes, bars, and trendier spots for young singles or couples. These two kinds of lifestyles mix and create a great community.

Another great aspect of The Junction Triangle is that the Bloor Subway line runs right through it. The closest stations are Lansdowne and Dundas West. The Dundas Streetcar can take you either across Dundas or right down Roncesvalles to King Street, then all the way to Broadview - so anywhere downtown Toronto is always an option. Also, the Bloor GO Station is within walking distance, so any cities and towns to the north are easily accessible.

Because of The Junction Triangle’s existing amenities and multiple transit routes, it’s definitely an up-and-coming neighbourhood.

New homes in The Junction Triangle

Many developers and builders are beginning to plan for the area. Most of the projects are in the preconstruction phase - and there are a lot of them.

Imagine how walkable The Junction Triangle will be when all these new condos bring more people and new retail!

All of these developments are in the preconstruction phase, so we’re looking at completion dates set for 2015 and later, and there will surely be more developments proposed in the near future. We are very excited to watch The Junction Triangle blossom over the coming years, and climb that list of walkable Toronto neighbourhoods.
