Sherwood’s Grand Opening: Luxury Living in Lawrence Park

By Jen Taylor on Oct 09, 2014

Just below Lawrence, along Bayview Avenue lies an elegant neighbourhood nestled within the lush foliage of Sunnybrook Park. The streets, lined with 150-year old oaks and populated by stately homes built in the first half of the 1900s, alludes to the rich history of the Lawrence Park neighbourhood. Originally founded in 1907, the first advertisements for Lawrence Park declared it to be an “aristocratic neighbourhood” that was “far from the lake winds in winter.” Today the neighbourhood is the site of beautiful homes, exceptional educational institutions, restaurants, French cafes, and boutique shopping.

Fortunately, this outstanding neighbourhood is now home to Sherwood, the second luxury residential estate in Tridel’s Huntington enclave on Bayview Avenue. Located just below the Bridle Path and enveloped in the lush greenery of the Sherwood Park Ravine, Tridel’s idyllic and tranquil condominium homes emphasize luxury and elegance in one of Toronto’s best neighbourhoods.

Life in the lap of luxury

Situated within the natural topography of the Sherwood Park Ravine, the Huntington residences are surrounded by lush greenery during the summer and an enchanting display of bright colours in the fall. The building is accessed by a private tree-lined drive which leads to the carefully manicured roundabout and gardens. The grandeur of the building is immediately apparent upon walking through the canopied glass entrance, which leads to Sherwood’s lobby and lounge. This classic and tasteful room features hand crafted metal work, wood detailing, and an inviting seating area, and is a paragon of elegance.

Elegant spaces for entertaining and exercise

To the left of the entrance lies a Grand Staircase which leads to a cozy lounge area and fireplace. On this level, residents can entertain guests in the Party Room and enjoy the adjoining Bar or host a formal meal in the Private Dining Room. With seating for fourteen people and a catering kitchen, entertaining groups of any size is effortless. For those looking to enjoy a quieter evening, a small library with comfortable seating is tucked away behind the lobby on the ground floor.

Fitness and health are also a priority at Sherwood. Active residents are free to use the top-of-the-line Fitness Centre, which is fully equipped with free weights, cardio equipment, a yoga studio, swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, and comfortable change rooms.

After an intense workout or a long day at work, residents can retire to one of just ninety-one condominium homes and enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony, or soak in the master ensuite’s large bathtubs to relax and unwind. The bathroom’s marble countertops, recessed sinks, and glass showers epitomize luxurious living, while the generously sized living spaces and 9-10 foot ceilings create spacious rooms for private entertaining. Expansive balconies and terraces also allow every resident to enjoy views of the tranquil ravine or spectacular cityscape.

Shopping and organic food at your fingertips

Residents can find a range of excellent shopping and services along Yonge Street, which is only a short walk from the Sherwood residences. Start the morning with a shot of espresso from nearby I Deal Coffee or wander into Patisserie Sebastien for a simple pain au chocolat or a sit-down brunch. For lunch, treat yourself to Toronto’s best smoked salmon at Kristapsons Salmon, and pick up desserts on the way home from Butter Avenue (may we suggest the macarons). Locals can do a one-stop shop for groceries at the local Whole Foods or head down to Yonge Street’s Organic Abundance for fresh organic produce. The Friendly Butcher, a neighbourhood staple, also offers locally sourced meats and produce from within 100 miles of the city! Sunnybrook Plaza, the Yonge Eglinton Centre, and Silver City also lie on the periphery of the Lawrence Park neighbourhood, putting entertainment and shopping within arms reach.

Elite educational opportunities

Young families are at an advantage at Sherwood as the neighbourhood is populated with several of Toronto’s best schools, including Havergal College, a university preparatory boarding school for girls from JK to grade 12, and Crescent School, an independent school for boys starting at grade three. To the south lies the North Toronto Collegiate Institute, one of Toronto’s best public high schools. The institution has repeatedly been ranked amongst the top 10 schools in Ontario since 2006. Bilingual families will appreciate the proximity to the Toronto French School, while York University’s picturesque Glendon College Campus is located just north of Huntington.

Active residents will also appreciate Sunnybrook Park, which boasts cycling paths and a dog park. This park originated as a 175-acre farm and the stables still stand today, housing a selection of horses and offering weekly lessons and summer camps. The neighbourhood is also home to The Granite Club, an athletic country club where members can swim, skate, curl, enjoy the fitness amenities, play tennis, or keep their golf skills up to par at the Winter Golf Academy. During the winter months, residents can also enjoy cross-country skiing amongst the two hundred year old trees in Windfields Park, or recreational skating in the nearby York Mills Arena. Those looking for a slower pace can enjoy Toronto’s Botanical Gardens at Edwards Gardens, which hosts workshops and events regularly, touching on photography, garden design, and urban agriculture.
