Otto 101 by CountryWide: Coming Soon to Thornhill!

By Lucas on Nov 18, 2014

This fall, CountryWide Homes started collecting registrations for Otto 101, a new freehold townhome community in Thornhill. The suburban neighbourhood of Thornhill has seen a lot of action recently, and we’re happy to see that an established, top builder like CountryWide will be bringing their flair to the area.

We should tell you now that the “101” in the name is not an address. That’s how many homes will be built at Otto! According to the Otto 101 project page, CountryWide was strongly influenced by the Bauhaus movement when launching the community. The Bauhaus movement was born out of a German art school in the early 1900s called Bauhaus, which translates to “house of building.” The school aimed to perfect and elevate the craft and technique of a variety of art mediums. Fine art, graphic and industrial design, typography, interior design, and architecture were studied at Bauhaus.

"The ultimate aim of all artistic activity is building! ... Architects, sculptors, painters, we must all get back to craft! ... The artist is a heightened manifestation of the craftsman. ... Let us form ... a new guild of craftsmen without the class divisions that set out to raise an arrogant barrier between craftsmen and artists! ... Let us together create the new building of the future which will be all in one: architecture and sculpture and painting," said Walter Gropius, a German architect and founder of the Bauhaus School.

CountryWide isn’t just influenced by the Bauhaus movement, they are pushing forward quite literally with the idea of bringing the most skilled designers, craftsmen, and artists to the table to design and build Thornhill’s next best townhome community.

Pure convenience in Thornhill

Located near 360 John Street, just west of Aileen Road, Otto 101 will be situated in a prime Thornhill neighbourhood (east of Bayview). One of the most important neighbourhood amenities for growing families is access to top rated schools. You will be glad to hear that Otto 101 is only a few minutes away from a variety of elementary and secondary schools, both public and Catholic, including Bayview Fairways Public School, St. Rene Goupil-ST Luke Elementary, and Green High School.

Of course, there are numerous grocery store options in the area, the closest being Food Basics and Longos. Travelling a few minutes west to Yonge Street, you will discover a few more specialty markets, such as York Farmers Market, Pat Thornhill Market, and Ambrosia Natural Foods.

As we discovered recently in our condo buyers survey, living near parks is also very important. We realize Otto 101 isn’t a condo development, but we think it’s pretty safe to say that living near a park is also important to low-rise homebuyers in the suburbs, even if they have their own yard. The largest park near Otto 101 is German Mills Settlers Park, and there are many smaller parks peppering the neighbourhood; the closest being Johnsview, Duncan, and Green Lane Parks. Looking west of Bayview, there is another large park called Pomona Mills, which features many walking paths and a creek.
