By Lucas on Dec 30, 2015

2015 was full of eye-catching headlines, reporting on record high home sales and average prices, as well as record low new home inventory levels. Builders, developers, interior designers, and architects presented some of the best and most innovative designs and concepts that we’ve ever seen.

Truly, 2015 was a great year of newsworthy events and stories. With that in mind, we would like to share with you Newinhomes.com's top five most popular news stories based purely on traffic.

1) Justin Trudeau making waves with the Liberal party

Justin Trudeau

No matter what the focus of your website is, if you have content about Justin Trudeau, it is probably your most viewed. The candidates could have been anyone and the Canadian election would have been a highlight this year, but add on the fact that Justin Trudeau is a particularly dapper gentleman and also the son of a former Prime Minister, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a newsworthy individual.

When Trudeau got elected, President of New Home Buyers Network, Sam Reiss, wrote about what a Liberal Government will mean for the housing market. The Liberal party said that there will be changes to the RRSP withdrawal rules, increased GST rebates, and that they will address affordability issues for families and individuals priced out of homeownership.

2) Minto cleans up in East Gwillimbury

According to Trimart Research Corporation, East Gwillimbury is one of the top five cities with the most new low-rise sales across the Total Market Area (TMA). The growth plan for East Gwillimbury calls for a large jump in population over the next decade and there are many builders taking advantage of the developable land.

Minto opened their Queen’s Landing community in February (not typically a busy time of the year for new home sales) and they sold out in just three hours! Over 7,000 people registered and more than 1,300 attended the opening. There were 90 townhomes and detached homes released in Phase 1 of Minto Queen’s Landing.

3) Daniels continues the revitalization of Regent Park

Late in 2014, Daniels announced that The Bartholomew would be coming to Regent Park in Toronto. Then early this year, Daniels unveiled the First Home Boost program at the new condo.

There was already a lot of hype around the new condo development because Daniels has been working for years on the incredible revitalization of Regent Park, then when they targeted first-time homebuyers, things really got rolling. The program allows you to “boost” your down payment from 5% to 15% interest and payment free!

The Bartholomew has been selling really well since it launched and it will surely be an amazing addition to the Regent Park community.

During the spring, Zeina Homes announced that a new luxury model home was opening at their Fonthill community, then at the beginning of June, they opened it to the public! In addition to the Zeina Homes team, the Mayor of Pelham, Dave Augustyn, and a few local councillors attended the milestone event.

The Cityview model is a 3,679 square foot, four-bedroom detached home with an elevator. Zeina Homes is known for their flexibility when it comes to homebuilding, providing a custom-like experience. There are floor plans you can choose from, but Zeina Homes can make many changes free of charge, which is why it's so exciting when they open a model home; it gives prospective purchasers the chance to see what they like and would change about a floor plan.

Recently in November, Amexon’s The Residences of 488 University Avenue was the proud recipient of four International Property Awards for Best Architecture-Multiple Residences, Best Residential High-Rise Development, Best Condominium Canada, and Best Interior Design Canada.

Whenever a developer or development within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is recognized internationally, it improves Toronto’s world-class status. Some believe that Toronto isn’t quite yet at world-class level, but Amexon’s achievement is a push in the right direction!
