New Info on 1926 Lake Shore Blvd. West

By Lucas on Mar 27, 2013

In previous articles, we have mentioned the blending of condos and hotels. A number of new projects in Toronto’s downtown core feature a hotel on the lower floors. The Ritz Carlton, Bisha, and Shangri La are all prime examples.

Another thing we’re starting to see more is developers purchasing hotels in order to convert them into condominium towers. Camrost Felcorp was one of the first to do it with their project Yorkville Plaza.

The Former Four Points Sheraton Hotel

1926 Lake Shore Blvd. West is the location of the former Four Points Sheraton. Located along the shore of Lake Ontario, the hotel was very popular for tourists who wanted easy access to the downtown core while staying in a greener area. As we reported last year, Carttera has purchased the site, but at that point we didn’t really have much info on the development. We speculated that Carttera would be looking to develop a twin-tower project, and now we have confirmation.

Twin Towers Headed to 1926 Lake Shore Blvd. West

According to an application submitted to the City of Toronto, Carttera is seeking permission to build two residential towers, reaching 42 and 48 storeys. The towers would share a four-storey podium, which would be home to ground floor retail (something the area needs desperately). In total, the two new towers could bring up to 847 units to the area. There’s been no word on whether Carttera is planning on partnering with a seasoned developer for when the project hits the market.

The Neighbourhood around 1926 Lake Shore Blvd. West

This neighbourhood is probably one of the greenest in the city, so it’s pretty easy to see why the area is attractive to end users. You're minutes from both Sunnyside Park and Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, the beach, and of course, Lake Ontario. Sitting behind the Gardiner Expressway and on a streetcar line, commuting will be a breeze.

Stay tuned to the Toronto Star's NewInHomes.com, we plan on looking deeper into this development once more information is known.
