Don’t Forget to Take Tarion’s Customer Satisfaction Survey!

We’ve spent November focusing on What Homebuyers Want, primarily discussing new smart home features, sustainable construction and technologies, and other tangible factors. But what do homebuyers want when it comes to the actual homebuying experience? That’s why the industry has the Tarion customer satisfaction survey. For 10 years, Tarion Warranty Corporation has been improving the homebuying experience in Ontario with their annual homeowner survey and the Tarion Awards of Excellence.

If you purchased a new home in Ontario between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014, there’s a good chance you will receive Tarion’s survey by either mail or email. The customer satisfaction survey is sent out to the majority of new homeowners in Ontario. Last year, the survey was sent out to 46,800 new homeowners. The questionnaire covers most of the stages of the homebuying process, from the signing of the agreement of purchase and sale, to construction, to the pre-delivery inspection, all the way to the quality of the after-sales service. The survey also covers your experience interacting with Tarion because improving your understanding of how to manage your new home warranty is also a big part of the homebuying process.

Your opinion matters because Tarion actually provides builders with reports comparing their results to the average for that year. Tarion will even meet with builders to discuss what can be done differently to improve the homebuying process. Some criteria in the survey that has best helped improve the homebuying experience in Ontario is the builder’s ability to deliver the new home as agreed, the homebuyer’s overall satisfaction before move-in, the builder’s level of accessibility, and their ability to complete repairs in a safe and organized manner.

Through last year’s survey, Tarion discovered that the majority of homeowners who were satisfied with Tarion’s customer service were the ones using the online program, MyHome, to manage their home warranty. Now, Tarion knows that they need to get more homeowners using MyHome in order to improve the homeowning and homebuying experience in Ontario.

The survey results are also used to determine the winners of the Tarion Awards of Excellence. These awards are the only ones in the Ontario new home industry that are based purely on customer satisfaction. There are four categories; High-Rise Builder of the Year (>100 possessions), Large Volume Builder of the Year (>100 possessions), Medium Volume Builder of the Year (21 - 100 possessions), and Small Volume (5 - 20 possessions).

By taking Tarion’s survey, you’re not only helping to improve the homebuying process in Ontario, you’re also telling other potential homebuyers which builder provides the best customer service. Tarion is the one and only warranty program for new homes in Ontario, and if a new home is built legally, it is covered by Tarion. Over the past decade, the Tarion Awards of Excellence have become more and more prestigious, and the winners get a lot of exposure. So, make sure you don’t pass over Tarion’s customer satisfaction survey when it comes in the mail, and double check your inbox to make sure you haven’t missed it!
