This past summer, Devron Developments and LeMine Group launched The Academy Condos in Scarborough, but this wasn’t just any regular opening. The developers committed to donating $25 to SickKids Hospital for every person that attended the sales event, up to a certain maximum. Well, The Academy Condos was very popular and highly anticipated, so it wasn’t surprising when the maximum was hit, and recently, the $30,000 cheque was presented at SickKids Hospital.

The success that Devron and LeMine saw at the VIP Preview Sales event was unprecedented. They sold out all 339 suites overnight! This is especially impressive considering it was the summer time (not the busiest time of the year for homebuyers) and this was only Devron’s second development and LeMine’s first.

JP McMillan, Associate Director, Corporate Partnerships at the SickKids Foundation accepted the $30,000 cheque from Pouyan Safapour, Vice President of Operations, Devron Developments, and Thomas Liu, Executive Director, LeMine Group.

“We wanted to share in the success that The Academy had. From the beginning, the whole theme of the project was community-focused. We worked with the university [University of Toronto Scarborough Campus] and we’re filling a demand for housing in the neighbourhood. We knew that the launch was going to be well attended, so it was the perfect way to give back,” said Safapour.

About SickKids Foundation

Last year, it cost a total of $824.7 million for SickKids Hospital to operate, with the majority of the funding coming from the Ministry of Health (60 percent). Other sources include the SickKids Foundation (7 percent), Patient Care & Other (7 percent), and Research Grants (18 percent).

Donations like Devron and LeMine’s go towards providing care for patients, investing in new research projects, and training new doctors and other staff.

Around 100,000 patients are cared for at SickKids every year. McMillan explained that there are four tiers of paediatric health care: Primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. SickKids specializes in tertiary and quaternary care, meaning that the hospital has patients that need to return to the hospital numerous times a week for treatment, and in some cases there is only a handful of people in the world with the proper expertise to handle specific illnesses.

There are more than 8,700 staff members at SickKids, in addition to nearly 1,700 volunteers. There are over 3,000 trainees being trained and educated in paediatric health at the hospital, and there are more than 2,000 scientists and research staff.

With a high number of research projects and staff working 24/7 for the 100,000 patients at SickKids Hospital, every dollar makes a difference. The whole team at Newinhomes.com extends our thanks and appreciation to Devron and LeMine for contributing to such a great cause.

Stay tuned for upcoming projects by Devron and LeMine. If their next projects are anything like The Academy Condos, you’re going to want to be at the top of the registration list!
