Creating your own home environment

Like fashion, design and decor trends change or evolve every year. Good design – whether we’re talking about clothing or your home, starts with having good “bones” or well thought-out design principles that form the foundation on which to build and express your own personality.

When you buy a new condominium you have the opportunity to choose the location where you want to live and the architectural style that most appeals to you. In the preconstruction phase (and sometimes early in construction too), during what’s called “Colour Selection,” you’ll also be able to choose all of the interior features and finishes that make up those bones. It’s a good thing that developers like Pemberton Group keep up-to-date on what’s new, and offer a wide array of packages and alternatives.

Chasing colours

Let’s start with one of the easiest thing to change in your home. Whether you’re purchasing new or resale, you have the option to paint.

Colour influencers - companies like Pantone, make predictions about what will be colour trends for the coming year, and will make their official announcement in December.

While Sherwin-Williams, a Fortune 500 company in the US, recently announced its Colour of the Year for 2017. It’s called Poised Taupe and it looks like a mixture of gray and brown.

This makes a lot of sense because Newinhomes.com contributor and interior designer, Jo-Ann Capelaci, has also predicted that neutral pallettes will be on trend. Capelaci believes that a neutral palette will always work in a home.

Metal and glass

At the International Home + Housewares Show earlier this year, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, announced the interior colour palettes of 2017. There are nine new palettes, including Raw Materials, Florabundant, and At Ease.

During her presentation, Eiseman mentioned that metallics will continue to be popular through 2017, as well as coloured and clear glassware.

This is where Pemberton really hits the mark at Ten93 Queen West Condos. The sink in the kitchen has a champagne bronze single-lever pull-down faucet, and the doors have bronze lever handles. The bronze hue gives your living space a sophisticated look, and the pull-down functionality is influenced by an industrial aesthetic. This mixture and balance makes for a striking and unique atmosphere.

At Indigo Condos in Maple, Pemberton got creative in the ensuites. The bath enclosure features glazed ceramic wall tile with strip glass accent tiles. According to Eiseman, clear glass adds form and function to a space, while coloured glass is more about vibrancy. Having clear glass in the ensuite makes for a relaxing environment.

White-on-white

Another prediction by Capelaci is that white-on-white decor will be very popular through the fall season and into 2017. This look can be applied to any living space. In the kitchen, you can have white countertops and white cabinets. Your bedroom can have a white desk against a white wall.

At Ten93 Queen West, the window sills are white quartz, which will look amazing, especially if you’re striving for a clean, minimalist aesthetic. While white-on-white is trending, Eiseman predicts that black-and-white accents are about to make a comeback. Picture your white desk next to your white wall with a window with a white quartz sill, with touches of black accents on and around your desk.
