Crafthouse: A Unique 20-Home Community Launches in Toronto

Andrew Sorbara of Sorbara Development Group has launched Crafthouse (by Orchard Ridge Homes), an enclave of 20 unique homes in the Bayview Village neighbourhood of Toronto.

“Crafthouse is an exceptionally-considered design process, normally achieved in a custom-built home,” said Sorbara in a recent release. “We’ve realized both enhanced livability and an advanced level of design in a quiet 20-home enclave.”

Sorbara’s modern approach to their new low-rise community is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s low-rise designs, featuring strong lines and a geometric focus that we have never seen on a mass scale in Toronto’s residential scene. Go for a little walk on the side streets off High Park and Bloor West and you might find two or three modern designs resembling Crafthouse, but you won’t find 20 of them clustered together.

“Crafthouse is what’s possible – but rarely available – in this city right now. We continually see Torontonians expending considerable time and effort on designing custom homes,” continued Sorbara. “Imagine if that difficulty was taken away? We’ve created a scenario where we can interact beautifully inside our homes, within a likeminded community. It’s a testament to the cultural purpose behind architecture, design and development working together so impeccably.”

Aside from the incredible exterior designs, some of the other impressive features and finishes at Crafthouse include 12’ wide patio doors, built-in fireplaces in the master bedrooms, dark wood surfaces, a “seemingly bottomless tub” in the master ensuites, and soaring windows to allow for an abundance of natural sunlight throughout the day.

“Crafthouse is inspired by its surroundings: the neighbourhood, the greenery, and mostly, the people,” said Peter Vishnovsky, architect and interior designer for Crafthouse. “Homes of the past were designed to formally entertain and satisfy the nuclear family. Our needs are different today, and our living space should reflect life in 2014 and beyond.”

The homes of Crafthouse start at $1.8 million. Orchard Ridge Homes hosts open houses on the weekends from 11 am to 5 pm at Bayview and Finch in Toronto.
