The potential of our waterfront is limitless. Developers like Urban Capital at River City Condos, Dundee Kilmer at The Canary District, and Cityzen at Pier 27 are all ensuring that Toronto’s Waterfront keeps up with the rest of the city.

Tridel and Hines team up on Aqualina Bayside

As announced by Urbanation, Tridel is partnering with Hines to redevelop an underused pocket of the waterfront, East Bayfront. The project has been officially dubbed, “Aqualina Bayside.” The application with the City of Toronto spells out a seven-building master plan. Aqualina Bayside is the first tower of the very exciting development.

The history of East Bayfront

We have been awaiting word on Hines’ plans for the waterfront for some time. Back in August of 2010, Waterfront Toronto approved a plan for the redevelopment of 261 Queens Quay, a plan that could see up to 1,800 new market condominium units. The plan also calls for retail, office, and other public spaces.

The master plan by Tridel and Hines will occupy a 10-acre site located just south of Queens Quay, between Lower Sherbourne and Parliament. 261 Queens Quay was once the home of the CanPar building (Marine Terminal 29), but it has sat empty for the past few years. As you can see from the photos, the area is one that is ready for some new developments.

The development of East Bayfront

With the new George Brown College residence under construction just north of the beautiful Corus building, and a number of new high-rise condos on the way, East Bayfront is in for a change! Of course, our Waterfront is vast, so there are still some in between pockets that are in need of some attention, but we hope that Tridel and Hines’ efforts at Aqualina Bayside spur even more activity in the area.
