Calgary Market Booming?

We enjoy taking theoretical trips to different pockets of Canada peek at some of the interesting and unique buildings being developed. In the past, we have taken a look at the Tour Des Canadiens by our friends at Canderel, as well as Le Peterson and Le Belvedere, new projects by The Benvenuto Group.

This week, we headed out west to learn more about Calgary City Centre by Cadillac Fairview, a project that continues to impress us. What makes it so impressive? Well, the reasons are plentiful. Not only will the development incorporate a 47-storey glass and steel residential/ hotel tower, it will also boast a 34-storey office tower, and a significant retail component at the base.

These types of developments are common in Toronto, but they are rare in other areas of Canada. Located in the heart of Calgary's business district, City Centre will capitalize on the nation's most dynamic economy, while offering an intriguing mix of services and some really striking architecture.

Calgary is an area that has started to see its fair share of high-rise development. Some other developments in Calgary include “The Guardian,” a 41-storey tower developed by Hon Towers, “First,” an 18-storey tower, and “Mark on 10th.” Thriving due to its local economy, Calgary is on the edge of booming, and it just might be Canada’s next big investors market.

What are your thoughts on the Calgary market? Will it continue to grow? Is the demand there for multi-tower developments?
