Baker Street Residences: VIP Opening

By Lucas on Apr 26, 2013

On April 25, we headed up to Dufferin and Eglinton to attend the VIP Opening of Royalpark’s Baker Street Residences. The Sales Centre at 2468 Dufferin St. isn’t the largest space, but it sure can fit a lot of people! Hors d’oeuvres were served, drinks were poured, townhomes were purchased, all while friends, family, and colleagues mingled to the sound of classical guitar.

A chat with Marco De Simone of Royalpark

At one point in the evening, we managed to steal the president of Royalpark, Marco De Simone, away from his friends and family to talk shop. We first asked De Simone about Baker Street’s neighbourhood:

“This is my old neighbourhood. I grew up here as a kid. I’ve been in touch with people in the area – I still get my hair done in this area. This is an opportunity for me to come back to where I grew up and try to bring back that feeling that we had in this neighbourhood in the past. I’m more emotionally attached to this project than our other projects. It’s a throwback – it brings me back to when I was a kid.”

De Simone continued, discussing the future of the Baker Street site, and what part it will play in the growth of this neighbourhood: “When you look at the actual property from a developer’s point of view, it’s going to be the centre of the transportation system. You’ll have the crosstown that’s going to be built from the airport across to the zoo, and Eglinton West Subway station is 900 meters from the site right now. It will eliminate any need for a vehicle, and that’s the direction we’re going. Also, you have downtown at your doorstep because of the subway, but you don’t have to pay downtown prices.”

We’ve been to many VIP Openings, but nothing quite as grand and friendly as this, so before we let De Simone get back to mingling, we had to ask him who all those people were!

“These are all good friends of mine. We’ve been in this business for 35 years and we’ve accumulated a lot of friends that we have mutual respect with between consultants, contractors, friends, and family. We basically just make a few phone calls and people want to come see what we’re doing.” De Simone added, “We built our head office in the middle of one of our communities. We’re the type of people that stand behind our product, we’re there, we don’t hide from things. If there’s any situation, we like to address it and get it dealt with immediately – that’s the way we are. We’re a family business – this isn’t big business, playing with numbers; this is an emotional company with feelings and we’re in touch with our customers.”

About Baker Street Residences

Baker Street Residences is a new townhome community presented by Royalpark, which boasts a stunning selection of bachelors and two-bedrooms. What we really love about the design of Baker Street Residences is the wonderful use of outdoor space. Every townhome comes with either a rooftop terrace or a courtyard lounge, as well as balconies. Also, the way Baker Street Residences is laid out as a whole allows for a centre walk-through courtyard to pass between the two rows of beautifully designed townhomes.

You won’t be able to tell by the pricing, but the townhomes of Baker Street Residences include a wide variety of luxury upgrades, including granite countertops, extended upper cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and nine-foot ceilings on every floor!
