4 new retailers announced for the Canary District in Toronto

Ever since we learned about Dundee Kilmer enlisting the services of LiveWorkLearnPlay to curate the retail space in Toronto’s master-planned east end community, Canary District, we’ve been eagerly anticipating the announcement of what retailers will occupy the ground floor storefronts.

Well, Dundee Kilmer and LiveWorkLearnPlay just announced four more, which will make for 11 retailers that will be opening around the same time as first occupancy at Canary District Condos and Canary Park.

Gears Bike Shop, Sukhothai, Tori’s Bakeshop, and East Side Meats have been added to the list. Dundee Kilmer announced the first seven retailers last spring, which include Dark Horse Espresso Bar, Fuel Plus, OpusGlow Concept Spa, Pizza e Pazzi, Tabule Middle Eastern Cuisine, The Running Room, and Think Fitness Studio.

“We are delighted to welcome these new retailers,” says Dundee Kilmer President Jason Lester. “We believe this mix of services is testament to and evidence of the healthy lifestyle of Canary District residents and the overall positive well-being of this exciting and engaged neighbourhood.”

“Gears Bike Shop has everything a cyclist requires, regardless of ability and has been making cycling accessible to Canadians since 1988,” adds Lester, “Sukhothai has been offering critically acclaimed, authentic Thai food since 2008 and will be opening its fourth Toronto location at Canary District. Tori’s Bakeshop is a popular, eco-friendly, all natural organic bakery now expanding from its first retail location in the Beaches neighbourhood. East Side Meats is a new and innovative butcher shop that will offer locally sourced, top quality, ready-to-cook meat and seafood products, flavoured by their home-made marinades and spices.”

LiveWorkLearnPlay is responsible for curating other well known master-planned communities, including Mont Tremblant Village and Blue Mountain Village. The retailers at Canary District have been selected based on a health and wellness theme, which makes perfect sense since the Don Valley trail connects to the community and Corktown Common, the new 18-acre park, is adjacent to Canary Park.

“These newly announced retailers continue to reflect our business approach of choosing the best and most appropriate operators that fit within the vision of a project, which in this case is the health and well-being vision for The Canary District,” says Rob Spanier, Partner and Principal of LiveWorkLearnPlay. “We are attracting the ‘best of the best’ local retail operators which is in turn building a very attractive mix of services and experiences to complement this unique community. Retailers appreciate our deliberate approach to retail curation and business planning as ultimately, it helps to ensure their long-term success at a location, which is beneficial to their business, the developer and the community at large.”

We will soon be visiting the Canary District for a site tour and will be able to give you a sneak peek of the retail spaces which are nearing completion. Occupancy of the condo units in the first two condo buildings is scheduled for this April, and the retail openings will coincide with it so that homeowners have instant access.

Stay tuned, even more information about the Canary District will be shared in about a week’s time!
