Do you follow the current trends on design and fashion? This fall, there are a number of exciting new directions emerging. I have put together a list of ten options for you to consider:
1) White on white
So unexpected and clean, yet interesting. Notice how this simple and unassuming desk and frame fashion a sophisticated scene. It reminds me of the fresh feeling you get after the first snowfall. White on white is here for fall!
Restoration Hardware has always done neutral well! As far as I’m concerned, a neutral palette isn’t actually a trend; it’s popular every season throughout the year! Choose neutral finishes in your home and they will look current for the long haul. Use texture and shape to create the interest rather than colour.
3) Warm colours
If a neutral palette is not to your liking, add some striking colour and pattern sparingly to accessories and art work. I love this scene titled “Winter Warmth” by Williams Sonoma Home. The neutral backdrop with wintry white furniture is warmed up with the introduction of coral red. Think of the colours of the changing leaves and inject them into your home décor.
4) Display what you love
Bring out collections and display them with variety. If you travel, you may want to collect and display objects from places you have visited. This fall trend will bring interest and life to your space.
5) Faux fur throws
This cozy picture completely relates to fall with its gold, rust and brown colour tones. Add faux fur throws almost anywhere to warm and glam up a space. Bring them outdoors too so you can extend your season and enjoy those cool evenings with a drink of apple cider on the patio.
6) Gallery walls
Create a gallery wall with artwork that you love, on mass. You can also use family photos or duplicates of the same piece. Don’t be afraid to mix up the pattern sizes and shapes if you prefer. Note the fall inspired prints for this gallery wall.
7) Striking patterns
Consider creating an accent wall with wallpaper. Or how about some vibrant geometric patterns on the back of a kitchen island or for a feature strip in a tub shower? Bold geometric patterns are going to be huge this fall season.
8) Plaid is rad
That plaid pattern shirt you pull out in the fall now crosses over to interiors. Consider adding your favourite plaid pattern to your home. Use it sparingly for cushions and throws.
9) Matte black faucets
One of my favourite emerging trends for fall is black faucets. I often use black in my interior designs to ground a space. I love the way you can change a mood with black faucets. You can create a sophisticated, urban chic look or add some modern flair to a room.
10) Mixing styles
Are you a risk taker? Mixing furniture and decor styles has always been on trend in my mind, but you’re going to see it more this fall. Note the mid-century chairs are paired with an Americana inspired table and rustic table lamp. The look is pulled together with the balance of colour.
Whether you are a trendsetter or prefer classic styling, you may be able to incorporate one or two of these home decor trends for fall 2016. Is there one you prefer? Check out our Pinterest board for these and more fall looks.
